About READ
At READ, we are gathering at an historical conjuncture —a moment of a profound political and intellectual shift to the far right. In an era where neoliberal globalization has eroded the foundations of liberal democracy and fuelled reactionary internationalism, our convention emerges as a space for strategic coordination and collective reflection. READ is conceived as a forum to analyse and confront the structural inequalities and reactionary narratives of our time. Here, publishers, engaged intellectuals, and committed activists will unite to challenge the established order and develop concrete strategies for resistance and transformation.
Our international convention is not just a professional event –although it is that too!– but also a tool for coordination, aimed at collectively positioning ourselves in response to contemporary challenges and preparing effective counterstrategies. In the vibrant city of Barcelona –a city recognized as a European Capital of Democracy and a City of Literature– READ creates a space for critical debate and collective analysis.
Over several intensive days, participants will engage in strategic B2B meetings, thematic panel discussions, and public forums focused on political reflection. These sessions will serve to dismantle hegemonic discourses, interrogate the structures of capitalism, examine the war in Palestine, explore emerging anti-systemic movements, debate feminism and abolition, and address ecological crises –mobilizing the energies necessary for achieving systemic change.
READ is committed to fostering an international network of critical thought that transcends traditional boundaries. By advocating for the digital commons, integrating relevant technological tools, promoting sustainable publishing practices, and fostering public debate, we aim to drive forward a more equitable and resilient society. Join us in this ambitious project to reclaim public discourse, empower marginalized voices, and forge strategic alliances capable of enacting real cultural transformation
Partners
At the core of READ lies a robust and diverse coalition of partners who share our commitment to dismantling oppressive structures and advancing progressive change. Our network encompasses cultural institutions, independent foundations, and international publishers who believe in the transformative power of critical ideas. These partnerships are built on a shared vision of confronting the legacies of neoliberal globalization, fostering a political culture of resistance.
Our partners play a decisive role in sustaining this critical intervention. They provide essential resources and strategic support that enable us to amplify the voices of those challenging the status quo. Together, we are forging a transnational alliance committed to the radical reorganization of cultural and intellectual labour. This collaborative framework not only strengthens our collective bargaining power but also serves as a beacon of hope for communities seeking alternatives to capitalism.
This initiative, which aims to be in permanent growth, is coordinated by Radical Books Coop and promoted internationally by Verso (EN & ES), La Fabrique, Jacobin (EN & DE) and Brumaire.
